Cleaning Your
BBQs & Outdoor Kitchens
Gas BBQ
Instructions:
Turn off & disconnect gas (propane tank or natural gas line).
Preheat for 10–15 min on high with the lid closed → this burns off excess grease.
Turn off & cool slightly until warm, not hot.
Brush grates with a stiff grill brush or scraper.
Remove grates & flame tamers → soak in warm soapy water, scrub, rinse, dry.
Clean burners with a soft brush; check holes for blockages (use a toothpick or paper clip).
Empty drip tray/grease pan, wash with hot soapy water.
Wipe down interior walls & lid with warm soapy water (avoid harsh chemicals).
Reassemble & polish exterior with stainless steel cleaner or mild detergent.
Best Practices:
Do a burn-off after every cook (10 min on high).
Deep clean every 2–3 months during grilling season.
Store with a cover when not in use.
Check for gas leaks (soapy water test on connections).
Electric BBQ
Instructions:
Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely.
Remove cooking plates/grates (if detachable). Wash in warm soapy water, or check if they’re dishwasher-safe.
Wipe down heating element with a damp cloth (never immerse it in water).
Clean drip tray – empty grease and wash thoroughly.
Wipe exterior with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
Dry all parts completely before reassembling.
Best Practices:
Avoid abrasive cleaners to protect non-stick coatings.
Always keep electrical components dry.
Clean drip tray after every use.
Deep clean monthly if used frequently.
Charcoal BBQ
Instructions:
Wait until coals are fully extinguished & cold (can take 24 hrs).
Remove grates and scrape off food residue with a grill brush.
Empty ash catcher and dispose of ash in a metal container.
Wash grates with hot soapy water, rinse, and dry.
Scrape bowl/interior with a putty knife or brush.
Wipe down lid & exterior with warm soapy water.
Lightly oil grates before storing to prevent rust.
Best Practices:
Clean ash after every cook to prevent moisture buildup.
Use a grill cover to protect from rust.
Deep clean every 4–6 uses.
Avoid harsh chemicals—stick to hot water, vinegar, or baking soda for stubborn spots.
